To import live ornamental fish you to need submit an application in the proper format and with relevant documents with the DGFT. The Ministry of Fisheries and the related trade cell would examine the application and after satisfaction, they will issue the Import license to import aquarium fishes. Ornamental or Aquarium fish Import license will be valid for 18 months from the date of issue.

Ornamental fish import license falls in the category of restricted import items and can not be renewed. You can only file for a new one. You can apply for a new license before the expiry of your existing one.

Officially you can import 92 varieties of Fishes which include Fresh water and saltwater fishes. Check the List here: This is the list issued by Ministry of Fisheries. You can either choose specific varieties out of these 92 or can go for all the 92 varieties to import.
